Modern Trends in Human Leukemia

XVI. Wilsede Meeting Board: A. Ganser, M. Greaves, W. Ostertag, K. Welte, A.R. Zander Organizers: C. Baum, B. Fehse, C. Stocking

Together with Axel Zander and Boris Fehse (Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit, UKE), I am organizing the XVI. Wilsede Meeting Modern Trends in Human Leukemia. The meeting will take place from June 18-22, 2005 in the Lüneburger Heide. The 2005 Wilsede Meeting will focus on three main topics - "Pluripotent Stem Cells and Plasticity", "Molecular Mechanisms of Differentiation and Leukemia" and "Immunology and Tolerance". A central purpose of this scientific meeting is to present, discuss, and evaluate the recent developments in these areas and to assess their potential therapeutic applications. Renowned international specialists in the different fields will be attending. In addition, Robert Gallo, co-discoverer of HIV and one of the original organizers of the meeting, will be giving a special lecture. Wilsede is located in the heart of the nature reserve in the Lüneburger Heide and - without cars or public transportation - it is the ideal setting for scientific interchange and stimulating discussions. The charming surroundings of the meeting site create an informal and relaxed atmosphere, inspiring communication at every opportunity, for which the Wilsede meetings are known.

Scientists at the HPI are welcome to attend the meeting. There is no registration fee, but interested persons are asked to register on the website (http://www.wilsede-meeting-xvi.com) so that arrangements for meals can be made. For those interested in presenting their work in form of a poster, please submit an abstract on-line by May 1st. The meeting is made possible through the generous support of the Roggenbuck Stiftung, the DFG, and the Mildred Scheel Stiftung of the Deutsche Krebshilfe.

Hope to see you there,

Carol Stocking
