Networks

Close collaborations between different laboratories and research institutes accelerates successful basic research in a highly competitive international environment. To this end, the LIV has created an institutional framework to share technology platforms with its collaborators and is involved in regional and national research associations such as the CSSB or DZIF and collaborative research centres such as the SFB841: “Liver inflammation: infection, immune regulation and consequences” at the UKE. A strong network is also prerequisite to strengthening the Hamburg metropolitan region’s translational research in virology.

German Centre for Infection Research

The LIV is a founding member of the German Centre for Infection Research (DZIF) and a member of the Hamburg /Lübeck/Borstel partner site: Global and Emerging Infections together with the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM), the Research Center Borstel (FZB) and research groups from the University of Hamburg and the University of Lübeck.

Integrative Analysis of pathogen-induced Compartments

Hamburg's ScienceCampus "Integrative Analysis of pathogen-induced Compartments" (InterACt) aims to improve our understanding of the role of compartments in the course of infection.

Leibniz Center Infection (LCI)

The LIV works closely with its neighboring Leibniz institutes, the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM) and the Research Center Borstel - Leibniz Lung Center (FZB). Together they founded the Leibniz Center Infection (LCI) to strategically ally the complementary areas of the three Leibniz Institutes.

Leibniz Lab Pandemic Preparedness

A total of 41 Leibniz Institutes have joined forces in the Leibniz Lab Pandemic Preparedness: One Health, One Future initiative to network and consolidate their interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary expertise. The goal of the initiative is to be better prepared for future pandemics.

Leibniz Association

The Leibniz Association connects 97 independent research institutions that range in focus from the natural, engineering and environmental sciences via economics, spatial and social sciences to the humanities.

Leibniz Research Networks (LFV)

The LIV has participated in the Pharmaceutical Agent Research and Biotechnology Leibniz Research Network (LFV) since 2012. The inter- and transdisciplinary research network has four research areas and its investigations include the development of natural active agents and the analysis of their activity spectra.

Centre for Structural Systems Biology

The Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) is an interdisciplinary research initiative in which scientists from ten different university and non-university institutions work together to investigate complex processes and interactions between pathogens and their hosts and to discover targets for novel active substances, anti-infectives and vaccines.
