PIER PLUS

As a strategic science platform for the Hamburg metropolitan region, PIER PLUS embodies the close partnership between non-university research institutions and universities in the region and represents excellent, interdisciplinary research collaboration. Together, scientists work across six research profiles to address the pressing challenges of our time and represent Hamburg as a science location, with the overarching goal of further strengthening Hamburg’s position as an internationally leading knowledge metropolis.

As a platform, PIER PLUS also enables the joint development of topics with synergy effects, the so-called Common Fields of Action. The network promotes a dynamic, open research landscape that transcends institutional boundaries and supports agile, cooperative collaboration.

PIER PLUS views science as a driver of innovation and makes an important contribution to knowledge transfer into society.

As a member of the association, the Leibniz Institute for Virology is actively involved in the health and infection profile.
