Universität Hamburg (UHH)

Since 2011, the LIV has been involved in the Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) at the Hamburg-Bahrenfeld science campus together with the UHH. In this interdisciplinary research center, various research departments from university and non-university institutions have been investigating complex processes in the infection process as part of an overall systems biology concept since 2016. The CSSB research building is located in the immediate vicinity of the PETRA III measuring hall, giving scientists at the CSSB access to light and X-ray radiation sources (FLASH, European-XFEL) that are unique in Europe and offer unique conditions for structural and systems biology.  

The LIV and the UHH participate in the CSSB through the research department Structural Cell Biology of Viruses. The department investigates structural biology issues in viral infection processes. The LIV thus anchors access to systems and structural biology issues at the institute. At the same time, the LIV programmatically promotes cooperation with regional and national partner institutions as well as large research networks through the joint use of the infrastructures at the CSSB.
