The Supervisory Board

As an external supervisory body, the supervisory board reviews and monitors the LIV board’s business management and conservation of the foundation’s mission. It has wide ranging rights to information and may issue the board with instructions as part of its duties. Among other things, the supervisory board advises the board on research objectives, structural matters and medium term financial and economic planning.

The supervisory board is composed of the chairs of the Ministry of Science, Research, Equalities and Districts (BWFGB) and Health and Consumer Protection (BGV) authorities of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, two representatives of the appropriate federal ministry (Federal Ministry of Health, BMG), the president of the University of Hamburg, the dean of the Medical Faculty of Hamburg University, two scientists from medical or scientific fields, a private citizen (principally from industry) and the chairperson of the scientific advisory committee. The chair of the BWF takes on the chair of the supervisory board and the appropriate Federal Ministry of Health appoints the deputy chair.
