Supervisory Board

As an external supervisory body, the supervisory board reviews and monitors the LIV board’s business management and conservation of the foundation’s mission. It has wide ranging rights to information and may issue the board with instructions as part of its duties. Among other things, the supervisory board advises the board on research objectives, structural matters and medium term financial and economic planning.

The supervisory board is composed of a representative of the Ministry of Science, Research and Equalities (BWFG) and a representative of the Ministry of Labor, Health, Social Affairs, Family and Integration (Sozialbehörde) of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, two representatives of the responsible federal ministry (Federal Ministry of Health, BMG), the vice president of the University of Hamburg, the dean of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, two scientists from medical or scientific fields, a private citizen (principally from industry) and the chairperson of the scientific advisory committee. The supervisory board is chaired by the representative of the BWFGB, the deputy chair is appointed by the representative of the Federal Ministry of Health.
