DFG Africa project: Workshop on HIV-1 research in Nairobi

In May, Prof. Marcus Altfeld, Scientific Director and Head of the “Virus Immunology” Research Department at the LIV, traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, for a multiple-day workshop as part of the DFG-funded Africa project “Metabolic Determinants of HIV-associated Pathogenesis”. Together with research partners from Kenya, Zimbabwe, Cameroon and South Africa, the current state of ongoing projects was discussed.

In addition to the scientific exchange on the influence of HIV-1 infection on immunometabolism, the focus was also on planning joint publications and future collaborations within the consortium. Another important item on the agenda was the strategic development of the project. New thematic priorities were defined for a possible continuation of the project.
