Dr. Mareike Ohms and Dr. Timothy Soh represent the interests of HPI postdocs

As a newly established team, Dr. Mareike Ohms and Dr. Timothy Soh represent the postdocs of the HPI. Timothy Soh already has experience as postdoc representative; for Mareike Ohms it is the first term. The postdoc representatives are elected annually by the postdoctoral scientific staff of the institute and represent their interests before the board of directors.
Dr. Mareike Ohms is researching in the department "Virus Immunology" headed by Prof. Marcus Altfeld. Dr. Timothy Soh is working in the associated group "Quantitative and Molecular Virology" of Prof. Jens B. Bosse.
Mareike, what motivated you to become postdoc representative at the HPI?
Mareike: As postdoc representative, I can actively participate in changes and improvements for us employees and postdocs.
In addition, one is rewarded for the commitment and dedication with the appreciation of colleagues, which gives the task a deeper meaning.
Tim, you have decided to continue your time as postdoc representative. What did you take away from your last term of office or what do you remember most about it?
Tim: We received a lot of positive feedback on the soft skills courses. This emphasized both the interest and importance of these skills in addition to wet lab techniques.
What are your plans for your time together as postdoctoral representatives?
Mareike: Adjusted to the current Corona situation, we want to organize a retreat in personthis year. In addition, the course portfolio for further trainings is to be expanded.
Tim: We hope to encourage a joint community of postdoctoral fellows and PhD students and have an annual scientific retreat that is more than just an online meeting.
The HPI would like to thank the current and former postdoctoral representatives for their commitment!
