Federal Ministry of Health visits the LIV

On May 14, 2025, two representatives of the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) visited the LIV to get an idea of the institute's work on site. The guests were Ines Perea, Sub-Department Head of Health Protection, and Dr. Ilka Grötzinger, Head of Division for Infectious Diseases and Deputy Chair of the LIV Supervisory Board.

They were accompanied by representatives of the Ministry of Science, Research and Equality of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg - including Eva Gümbel, State Councilor for Science, Research and Equality and Chair of the LIV Supervisory Board.

After a brief round of introductions, Prof. Marcus Altfeld, Scientific Director of the LIV, gave the visitors an overview of the institute and its main research areas. He explained the strategic orientation and the role of the LIV in national and international virus research.

Prof. Gülşah Gabriel then presented the Leibniz Lab Pandemic Preparedness, which she heads. Dagmar Schröder-Huse, Administrative Director of the LIV, gave insights into the change process in the Science-supporting Units and the status of the building plans.

The event ended with a tour of the institute.
