Girls & Boys Day 2025 at the LIV

On April 3, 2025, the Leibniz Institute of Virology once again opened its doors to interested students for the Girls & Boys Day. The aim of the nationwide day of action is to give young people an insight into professions and research areas in which their gender has so far been underrepresented.

After a brief welcome and introduction to the LIV's areas of activity, a varied program awaited the participants:

In the Microscopy and Image Analysis technology platform, they gained exciting insights into the world of the invisible and were able to experience live how modern imaging is used in virological research.

With the Emerging Viruses Research Group, DNA was extracted from bananas and strawberries - a vivid experiment that gave the students an understanding of the basics of molecular biology and allowed them to experience working in a laboratory.

The young people immersed themselves in everyday research at the LIV with great curiosity and a love of experimentation. A morning that certainly contributed to their continued enthusiasm for science and perhaps even laid the foundation for a future career as a researcher.
