The Mayor of Hamburg, Peter Tschentscher, visits HPI stall at Leibniz Association reception in Berlin

As part of the annual conference of the Leibniz Association, an evening reception was held at the Representation of the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg in Berlin on November 28, 2018. The Heinrich Pette Institute had the opportunity to present itself with a stall which was visited by the President of the Leibniz Association Prof. Matthias Kleiner, State Councillor Eva Gümbel and Hamburg's First Mayor Peter Tschentscher.

The annual Leibniz Trainee Award and the PhD Award of the Leibniz Association were both awarded at the event, to which Prof. Matthias Kleiner and Peter Tschentscher addressed the audience.

At the Heinrich Pette Institute's stall, interested guests could inform themselves about the research at the HPI. HPI scientist Dr. Helga Hofmann-Sieber from the Department of Viral Transformation explained the different fates of cells infected with adenoviruses using a film. In addition to information material about the HPI, there was also a "virus craft kit" at the stall, which provided a good explanation of the structure of a virus.

In addition to the HPI, the two other Leibniz Institutes in Hamburg, the Bernhard-Nocht-Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM) and the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA) also set up a stall during the reception.
