Hamburg's Senator for Science Maryam Blumenthal visits the LIV

On August 4, 2025, Maryam Blumenthal, Senator for Science, Research and Equality of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, visited the Leibniz Institute of Virology for her official inaugural visit.

Senator Maryam Blumenthal had already been a guest at the LIV two weeks ago on the occasion of the Leibniz Virology Lecture with Prof. Akiko Iwasaki - now the focus was on learning more about the institute and its research.

After a welcome, there was a short presentation with insights into the institute's research - excellent virus research from the molecular basis to the application in translation. She then had the opportunity to take a tour of the institute's premises and get hands-on: In the Microscopy and Image Analysis technology platform, she took a look through a microscope and learned more about the possibilities of making even the tiniest structures visible.

At the get-together that followed in the foyer, the LIV's junior researchers had the opportunity to talk to the Senator.

The LIV is grateful for the constructive exchange and would like to thank Senator Maryam Blumenthal for her visit.
