LIV part of the longest table for democracy, diversity and solidarity
On September 14, 2024, the Leibniz Institute of Virology took part in the Long Table for Democracy, Diversity and Solidarity at the Rathausmarkt in Hamburg. The event marked the festive conclusion of this year's Hamburg Foundation Days.
Under sunny skies, the LIV invited interested visitors to its table section to immerse themselves in the world of science in a playful way. The varied program offered a lot of fun, especially for the younger guests: A giant virus memory game stimulated both memory and curiosity, while creative talents were required for virus crafting and painting. In addition, children could slip into research clothing - consisting of lab coats, protective goggles and gloves - and feel like real scientists.
The LIV took the opportunity to present itself as a scientific foundation and to communicate the importance of virus research. The event was accompanied by a varied stage program with dance and music performances as well as a poetry slam. At the festive conclusion, the Senator for Science and Second Mayor of the City of Hamburg, Katharina Fegebank, appeared on stage and a photo of the entire Long Table was taken from the balcony of the Town Hall.
