New graduate program VISION

To accelerate progress in the development of effective antiviral drugs and vaccines, it is essential to gain an advanced understanding of virological research at the mechanistic level. The VISION (VISualization and imaging of virus InfectION) graduate program will focus on training young scientists in this field and providing them with access to the latest structural analysis and imaging techniques. The main goal of the new graduate program is to deepen the understanding of viral infections through improved visualization and imaging.

The spokespersons are Professor Thomas Krey, head of the Institute of Biochemistry at the University of Lübeck, and Professor Kay Grünewald, head of the Department of Structural Cell Biology of Viruses at LIV. Other researchers involved in the project are Maya Topf (Head of the Department of Integrative Virology), Jens Bosse (Head of the LIV Associated Group Quantitative and Molecular Virology) as well as Charlotte Uetrecht (Head of the LIV Associated Group Dynamics of Viral Structures), Jan Kosinski (EMBL) and Maria Rosenthal from the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the VISION Research Training Group will lay a solid foundation for future research in the field of viral infections. The close collaborations will allow to establish a strong basis to gain new insights in viral infection research.
