Primary school class visits the LIV

On May 8, 2025, a 4th class from Forsmannstraße primary school visited the Leibniz Institute of Virology to gain their first exciting insights into the world of research.

After a welcome and a safety introduction by Prof. Thomas Dobner (Department of Virus Transformation), the children got to know the LIV better: The head of the Emerging Viruses Research Group, Prof. Stephanie Pfänder, presented her work in a child-friendly way and explained how viruses are studied and why this is so important.

With great enthusiasm, the children were then allowed to get active themselves: They were able to prove their skills by pipetting samples and take home their own virus creations by designing virus buttons and magnets. A brief look at the laboratory area rounded off the program.

The LIV is looking forward to inspiring young visitors for science and research - maybe even one or the other virologist of tomorrow was among them!
