Prof. Gülşah Gabriel appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board of the RKI

Prof. Dr. Gülşah Gabriel, Head of the Research Department of Viral Zoonoses - One Health at the Leibniz Institute of Virology and Professor at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover Foundation, has been appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). The advisory board advises the RKI on strategic scientific issues and supports the institute's own research in an international context.

Prof. Gülşah Gabriel is one of the world's leading experts in the field of influenza viruses and pandemic research. She is also the spokesperson for the Leibniz Lab Pandemic Preparedness, which pools the inter- and transdisciplinary expertise of 41 Leibniz institutes from all over Germany in order to be better prepared for future pandemics. 

"It is a great honor for me to have been appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board. I am very pleased to be able to contribute my expertise to the strategic development of the RKI with regard to health research", says Prof. Gabriel about her new role.

About Prof. Dr. Gülşah Gabriel

Prof. Dr. Gülşah Gabriel studied biology at the Philipps University of Marburg, where she completed her doctorate in virology. After research stays in the UK and Canada, she has headed her own department at the LIV since 2014. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of zoonotic viral infections with a focus on influenza viruses.
