Second digital Girls & Boys Day

On April 28, 2022, the Girls and Boys Day was held for the second time as a digital venue. Following the pandemic, the event was already held digitally in 2021, and in 2022 it was directly planned as a digital event once again.

The 16 students between the ages of 12 and 16 were given an insight into the work and everyday life at a virus research institute.

After the welcome address and introduction, the mini-researchers were allowed to get active themselves: Under digital guidance, they not only extracted DNA from bananas at home, but also learned how disinfectants affect proteins.

Dr. Rudolph Reimer, head of electron microscopy at the institute, impressively demonstrated in a live presentation how even the smallest structures can be made visible with the help of microscopes.

At the end, the acquired knowledge was tested in a small quiz.
