Visit of the Corvey High School
As every year, the excursion of the neighboring Corvey High School to LIV took place on July 11, 2023. At this event, the students of the biology profile course were given an insight into our research.
After an introductory lecture about the institute, the different research groups and a short excursion into the basics of virology, the high school students received a safety briefing on working in S2 laboratories and were then allowed to do some hands-on work themselves.
The Viral Transformation Department performed a plasmid extraction of a plasmid containing Lizard adenovirus DNA with the youngsters. After digestion of the DNA by restriction enzymes, the students were able to use gel electrophoresis to check whether they had worked cleanly and whether they had prepared a plasmid with or without Lizard adenovirus DNA.

Afterwards, the profile course received a guided tour through our technology platform "Microscopy and Image Analysis", the 3- and 4D fluorescence microscopy was presented and an organoid from the Department of Virus Immunology was viewed with virtual reality glasses.
