Viral Transformation

Our department Viral Transformation uses adenovirus (Ad) as a model system to study the molecular interactions involved in viral oncogenesis, focusing particular attention on mechanisms controlled by Ad E1B and E4 key regulatory proteins. Our studies are intended to determine the molecular mechanisms by which these factors regulate viral replication, and how this regulation is related to their cellular growth transforming activities. These basic studies not only provide valuable information into the control of virus replication and viral oncogenesis but will also provide new target structures (viral and cellular) that may be subsequently used for the development of novel antiviral and anticancer therapies.
