Viral Zoonoses - One Health

The aim of the Research Department Viral Zoonoses - One Health, headed by Prof. Dr. Gülsah Gabriel, is to understand the interspecies transmission and pathogenesis of influenza A viruses. The department is investigating why some people have an increased risk of influenza (e.g. pregnant women, asthmatics) or how primary influenza increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. In the program area Molecular Mechanisms of Viral Pathogenesis, new viral and cellular determinants are identified that increase the risk of infection and disease. The results of these investigations form an important basis for the further development of new strategies to establish innovative therapeutic approaches against influenza and other respiratory virus infections (program area Innovative Antiviral Therapies).
