LIV Graduate School

Our structured doctoral program promotes academic excellence while fostering creativity, collaboration, and interdisciplinary exchange. As a non-university research institute, the LIV is not authorized to award doctoral degrees. Therefore, the LIV collaborates with partner universities that officially recognize the LIV doctoral program. 

Our training is built around four core modules: Interdisciplinary Seminars, Scientific Seminars & Methods, Soft Skills and Networking. 

Within these modules, doctoral researchers take part in a wide range of activities offered by the LIV and our collaborating universities and institutions. These experiences foster both scientific excellence and personal development.

Participation in the program earns credit points that are required for degree completion at our partner universities. Upon graduation, candidates receive a Transcript of Records, a detailed document that highlights the breadth of skills, experiences, and competencies acquired throughout their doctoral journey.

Participation in the program is monitored and documented via Geventis. The Geventis database, operated by the Uni Hamburg, serves as the central online platform for all activities and courses taken by the doctoral researchers. Credit points are centrally awarded and managed by the LIV Graduate School directly through the platform.

We also believe in proactive support. Therefore, our program includes regular, mandatory meetings between doctoral researchers and supervisors after six months and at least once a year from the beginning of the project. This structured yet flexible approach ensures strong mentorship and timely feedback.

Through this program at the LIV, we are committed to supporting our doctoral researchers and preparing them to become not only experts in their field but also well-rounded professionals.
