Training & Development Activities
At LIV, we are committed to supporting our doctoral researchers not only as experts in their respective fields but also as well-rounded professionals. To this end, our doctoral candidates participate in a diverse range of scientific and networking activities such as:
LCI Summer School
The LCI Summer School is an interdisciplinary teaching and training program in infectious diseases that takes place annually as a two- to three-day event. Organized by the three partner institutes of the Leibniz Center for Infection (LCI) (LIV, FZB, and BNITM), the LCI Summer School brings together doctoral candidates and researchers from these institutes, offering a platform for professional exchange, networking, and presenting current research findings.
LCI Method Days
Annual in-house training days hosted by the LCI institutes focus on specific methodological expertise. These include Imaging Day: Microscopy & Image Analysis (LIV), Epidemiology Day (BNITM), and Nuclear Magnetic resonance & Mass Spectrometry Day (FZB).
Young Scientists Retreat
This biannual retreat is designed by and for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers to engage in career-focused workshops and lectures, and to present and discuss their own scientific work. With invited experts and peer collaboration, the retreat provides an opportunity to exchange knowledge, build networks, and gain valuable insight for scientific and professional growth.
LIV Career Day
This biannual in-house event promotes direct interaction with industry representatives, third-party funding agencies, and research institutions. The Career Day provides insights into different career paths, strengthens networking skills, and supports strategic, informed career planning.
LIV Institute Seminar
During the weekly internal Institute Seminar, doctoral and postdoctoral researchers present their work and receive constructive feedback. They also engage in collaborative discussions with their peers and senior scientists.
LIV Lecture Series
LIV organizes monthly public lectures featuring nationally and internationally renowned scientists who present their current research.
LIV Scientific Retreat
The annual LIV Scientific Retreat is a one-day event that brings together all LIV research units to present and discuss current projects. This event fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthens internal networks, and provides a platform for scientific dialogue among researchers.
