It is our aim to unravel the molecular mechanisms that control viral life cycles and virus induced pathogenesis. This research will provide novel targets and therapeutic approaches for established and emerging viral disease."

Mission and Vision  

As a Leibniz Institute, the LIV is a subject-focused research institute of national standing. The institute’s socio-political and scientific mission embodies basic and applied research in the field of human pathogenic viruses. The institute’s mission statement sets forth: "Leibniz Institute of Virology (LIV), investigates the biology of human pathogenic viruses. It is our aim to unravel the molecular mechanisms that control viral life cycles and virus induced pathogenesis.
