Emerging Viruses

The Emerging Viruses research group, under the direction of Prof Dr Stephanie Pfänder, focuses on a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between these viruses and their hosts, in particular RNA viruses such as coronaviruses and flaviviruses. The new research group has been at the LIV since 1 January 2024 and is currently being set up.

Professor Pfänder's research focuses on understanding the complex interaction between newly emerging viruses and their host. Viruses are not independent and depend on the cellular processes of their host for their replication. A better understanding of virus-host interactions and deciphering the mechanisms of viral replication are essential in order to develop new ways of viral inhibition.

Further information on research areas, methods and projects will follow.
