NIKON Center of Excellence

Researchers at the Leibniz Institute of Virology (LIV) use a variety of light and electron microscopy techniques to study viral infections in various model systems. Methods such as fluorescence, high-throughput, and super-resolution microscopy, as well as transmission and scanning electron microscopy, are employed. These techniques enable the visualization of entire organisms down to molecular interactions between viruses and host cells. The work is conducted in laboratories with biosafety levels (BSL) 2 and 3.
The Nikon Center of Excellence (NCoE) at LIV is a collaboration between LIV and Nikon Europe. Its goal is to provide LIV and the partner institutes of the Leibniz Center Infection with state-of-the-art light microscopy technologies and software solutions for image analysis. The NCoE also contributes to the development and application of specialized preparation and transfer methods for correlative and integrative imaging.
